NIHR Organizes “You Have the Right” Event on Gulf Child Day
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Al Rawabi Private School, organized the “You Have the Right” event on the occasion of Gulf Child Day, which falls on 15 January 2026, with the participation of a number of representatives from official and educational entities.
During the event, Dr. Maha Saleh Al-Shehab, Child Rights Commissioner, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of this initiative in raising children’s awareness of their rights and strengthening engagement with the educational environment, thereby contributing to the development of a generation that is conscious of its role in society. She also expressed her appreciation to the Ministry of Education and the participating schools, noting that holding the event in conjunction with Gulf Child Day underscores the importance attached to children’s rights and the need to provide a safe and supportive environment, while highlighting the role of community partnerships and educational institutions in fostering a culture of child rights.
The event saw the participation of Al Rawabi Private School and Modern Horizons School, and was attended by Ms. Lulwa Ghassan Al-Mihna, Director of the Private Schools Licensing and Follow-up Directorate at the Ministry of Education, and Ms. Sara Al-Sheikh, Head of the Private Institutions Support Group at the Ministry.
As part of the event’s program, NIHR delivered an interactive awareness presentation for students covering several themes, including an introduction to children’s rights, ways children can protect themselves, an overview of the role of the Child Rights Commissioner at NIHR, and the Institution’s mandates and functions. The presentation also highlighted Gulf Child Day and its significance in promoting and protecting children’s rights across the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The event concluded with a tour of the accompanying exhibition, which was curated to include a range of drawings, posters, publications, and interactive games related to children’s rights, with contributions from Al Rawabi Private School and Modern Horizons School, as part of efforts to enhance awareness and embed a culture of child rights among students.
